The Judith M. Kaufman Civic Entrepreneurship Award was given to Summer Scholars Executive Director, Anne Byrne, in October of 2007 for her work with Summer Scholars and outstanding leadership in the community.

Mission Statement
Summer Scholars is an innovative, community-based youth development initiative to promote literacy and academic success among disadvantaged elementary students in Denver Public Schools.
 
Purpose and Goals
The overarching purpose of Summer Scholars is to equip low-income, academically-struggling elementary students with the skills necessary to attain academic success. Year-round programming, offered in the summer and after-school hours, builds students’ literacy and social skills.
