Volunteer
Working with youth is a great way to get involved.
Volunteering is a great way for you to offer service to the community and for our students to receive the extra attention they need. Summer Scholars currently has openings for several different volunteer opportunities. To read more about the opportunities that might be of interest to you (you can volunteer in more than one area), choose from the list below.
-
After a morning of focused literacy, the afternoons are all about activity. Work with small groups of students in crafts, sports, science, field trips and more.
-
Immigrants and Refugees are passionate about learning English to improve their own lifestyles as well as help their children in school. Work with these adults one-on-one and in small groups to learn English.
-
Work one-on-one with elementary aged students in the classroom by reading with them and working on vocabulary building.
-
Work with our youngest learners, birth through six years, whose first language is not English. You never know what you might be doing from holding a crying child to helping with snacks and crafts.
-
A lot of what happens with the students is possible because of what happens in the central office. Support all our programs by helping with office duties such as filing, phone calls, copying, mailings, supply preparation, data entry and more.
-
Volunteers will play a crucial role helping Summer Scholars organize and prepare materials for our award winning literacy programs. Much of our curriculum is custom made and created by hand. Care and effort in producing and re-stocking these materials directly affect the quality of tutoring for the students.
